Looking for painted hallway ideas that go beyond white walls? A yellow half-wall, a blue ceiling or even a wavy brown border gives you plenty to work with.
These hallways include soft color combinations plus a few darker looks if you want something a little bolder.
You can keep it simple or go all out. Start with one detail you love, whether that’s a colorful door or pink paneling, then decide how much color you want around it.
Hallway Paint Ideas Worth Saving
blue-gray and cream
We’re starting off strong with this pretty blue-gray and cream hallway. I love the narrow white trim between the two colors.
The framed botanical pictures and pale runner keep the decorating simple.

Try carrying the same lower-wall color around the end of your hallway, just like this.
deep green and round mirrors
How gorgeous is this deep green? The back and right-hand walls bring in the color while the left wall and ceiling stay white.
Those round gold-tone mirrors are such a pretty addition.
If you want to follow this look, add a few small botanical prints beneath the mirror at the end.

a blue-green ceiling
Don’t want to paint all of your walls? No problem!
Try a blue-green ceiling above white walls instead. I love how the color continues around the doorway at the far end.
The patterned runner gives you another place to bring in color without adding more paint.
brown waves and an arch
I am obsessed with this wavy edge. It’s such a fun way to finish a brown painted section instead of stopping at a straight line.
The brown border around the arched opening is just as pretty. Keep the surrounding wall pale if you want to try both details together.
mustard yellow half-walls
If you are looking for a bold color without painting the whole hallway, this one is for you. Mustard yellow covers the lower walls beneath a pale pink upper section.
Hang your favorite colorful pictures above the paint line to follow this cheerful little gallery.
navy paneling and cream
This navy paneling may just be one of my favorites here. I love the dark blue front door at the end too.
The cream upper walls leave room for a gold-tone mirror and a double wall light.
Add a red patterned runner if you want another color alongside the navy.
turquoise doors and trim
If you love color and pattern together, there’s so much to save here. Pale turquoise trim frames the leafy wall covering, with a deeper blue-green hallway beyond.
The door with the circular detail is my favorite part. Try matching your door to the surrounding walls for a similar look.
pink walls and gold hooks
How cute is this pink entry wall? The row of gold-tone hooks is such a simple detail, but it looks lovely against the pink.
You don’t have to fill every hook either. Leave a few empty like these so you can still see the little curved shapes.
one wide orange stripe
The stripe fans are going to love this! Instead of painting the lower half of the wall, there’s one wide orange band with pale space above and below.
I especially love the oversized framed print crossing the stripe. Try one large picture rather than lots of little ones if you want this same arrangement.
sage stairs and paneling
This is another pretty way to use sage green. The banister, stair edges and sloping wall paneling all share the color, with a pale runner down the middle.
The pictures above the stairs are a fun mix. Keep your upper wall white if you want to try a colorful gallery like this.
pink walls and a purple bench
How adorable is that little purple bench? The pale pink walls and white trim give it plenty of company, but the red-and-white geometric floor really goes all out.
Try a purple seat against your own pink wall if you want a smaller way to borrow this color combination.
pale yellow and white
If you’re looking for a lighter yellow, go with a pale shade like this one. The white doors and baseboards keep the rest simple.
I love the collection of small pictures at the far end. That’s a lovely spot for a gallery if your longer walls already have doorways.
an olive ceiling
Don’t want to add bright color to your hallway? This muted olive ceiling is a pretty alternative.
The molding is painted to match while the walls stay pale.

I’d keep the ceiling light simple like this round one so you can enjoy that uninterrupted stretch of color.
charcoal and golden lights
I am obsessed with these rounded gold-tone wall lights against the charcoal paint. The dark door trim matches the walls while the ornate ceiling molding is lighter.

If you want to go all out with a darker hallway, save this combination. Those glowing lights are a detail worth keeping.
dusty rose doors and paneling
This pink hallway is just too pretty not to save. I love the dusty rose paneling and matching door frames, especially with the paler pink walls above.
The striped shades and wavy mirror make it even cuter. Try one playful accessory if you want the paint to stay the main feature.
sage green and pale cream
Looking for something a little softer? This sage green paneling and matching door pairing is for you.
The pale cream upper walls look lovely with the rows of gold-tone picture frames.

A small wreath on the door is a sweet finishing touch if you want to follow this look.
blue doors beneath curved ceilings
The blue door frames are my favorite part of this hallway. They continue down to the baseboards, with gray-blue lower walls and pale cream above.
You don’t need a curved ceiling to borrow this idea. Try blue on your doors and frames while keeping the upper walls light.
lavender and white paneling
How pretty is this lavender? It sits above white paneling, with gold-tone landscape frames along the wall.
The purple flowers on the table bring that color into the decorating too.
If you already have white paneling, this is a lovely shade to consider for the wall above it.
olive walls and terracotta
If you are looking for a bolder pairing, then this one is for you. Olive green side walls meet a terracotta-colored ceiling and end wall, with the far door painted to match.
I love the black pendant lights above the star-patterned floor. Keep your frames simple if you want to try this much color and pattern together.
dark teal and a simple bench
Last but definitely not least, we have this pretty dark teal hallway. The lower walls, baseboards and right-hand door frame share the same deep color beneath pale cream walls.
