20 Rustic Pallet Shelf Ideas for Storage and Display

Looking for rustic pallet shelf ideas for your kitchen, entryway or an empty corner? These shelves give you plenty to work with, from spice racks with little hooks to staggered displays filled with plants.

There are a few ladder, hexagon and crate designs here too if you want a different shape.

You can keep things simple or make room for a whole collection. I especially love the painted shelves and the little coffee station.

Start with what you want to display, then pick a layout that suits your space.

Rustic Shelf Ideas Worth Saving

spice shelves with stenciled words

How cute is this kitchen rack? The black stenciled words stretch across the front rails, with spices above and taller bottles below.

That little red heart is such a sweet detail.

Try hooks along the bottom for glass mugs like these. The bottles hanging from the sides give you another detail to borrow.

chunky shelves and lanterns

I am obsessed with these long brown shelves. The black lanterns, white pots and stacks of books look so pretty together.

If you want to follow this display, spread your greenery across different levels rather than putting every plant on one shelf. Leave a little open space around the larger pieces.

entryway hooks and a picture ledge

If you are looking for something simple for your entryway, this one is for you. A narrow ledge holds a framed print and a small plant above a row of black double hooks.

I love the gray scarf and pale hat hanging below. Keep the top for a few decorative pieces while the hooks hold your everyday extras.

white corner book racks

How adorable are these little book shelves? The chipped white finish is so pretty against the gray walls.

Each rack wraps around the corner with the book covers facing out.

Try this arrangement in a reading corner if you’d rather see the covers than a row of spines. The little rabbit peeking over the edge is a cute extra touch.

bathroom towels and jars

This is a lovely way to bring rustic shelving into a bathroom. Folded white towels fill the middle opening, with lidded jars above and pump bottles below.

The wide front rails are my favorite part of this design. Keep your display just as simple with matching bottles and a small stack of towels.

a compact wine rack

Don’t want a tall shelving unit? No problem!

This short, wide rack has bottles tucked behind one front rail and wine glasses hanging underneath.

I love how the darker horizontal boards show through between the bottles. A simple arrangement like this doesn’t need much extra decoration.

hanging pots and garden tools

Take the pallet look outside with this plant and tool display. Green and brown pots hang across the pale slats, with a hand fork and trowel between them.

This one uses hooks rather than shelf ledges. Try the same mix of hanging greenery and garden tools if you want something a little different.

dark staggered corner shelves

Have an empty corner you don’t know what to do with? This dark brown unit wraps around both walls, with uneven backing boards and ledges at different heights.

I’d keep the styling light here. A small framed picture and a couple of little pots would let those staggered edges show.

a wall rack for tools

The tool organizers are going to love this! Wrenches hang against a perforated panel while screwdrivers sit in a row below. Small containers line the bottom shelf.

Give different tool groups their own section if you want to borrow this layout. The top ledge also has room for storage tubs.

a ladder of books and plants

This ladder shelf may just be one of my favorites here. I love the little plants tucked between upright books and flat stacks.

The shelves get wider toward the bottom, so the display changes as your eye moves down. Try a mix of gray and terracotta-colored pots to follow this look.

upright shoe storage

Looking for a different way to arrange your shoes? This tall rack lines pairs up behind broad horizontal rails, with boots and sneakers on the top surface.

The pale boards keep the design simple. If you try a similar rack, check that the shelf spacing fits the shoes you actually wear.

pale blue and white shelves

I am obsessed with this pale blue and white finish. The uneven color lets the darker lines of the boards show through, which looks so pretty with the little shell decorations.

Add blue decorative balls and a white pillar candle to borrow the coastal look. I’d choose a flameless candle for this display.

red mugs and white teapots

Calling all coffee corner fans, this one is so cute. Bright red mugs sit below white pots and pitchers, with jars lined up along the bottom.

I especially love the dark hardware on the sides. Pick one bright color for your mugs if you want to keep the rest of the display as simple as this.

trailing greenery and little lights

How pretty is this plant display? A long trailing vine falls down the left side while tiny lights wind around a diagonal branch in the middle.

The little elephant on the lower ledge is adorable. Add a favorite small ornament between your pots if you want that same personal touch.

uneven boards and offset ledges

Don’t want to add paint or lots of decorative details? No problem there!

This empty shelf has pale boards with uneven ends and four ledges arranged at different heights.

Once a similar unit is securely mounted, I’d start with just a few small pieces. There’s no need to fill every ledge.

honeycomb display shelves

These hexagon shelves give you a completely different shape to work with. I love the pointed ornaments inside the open compartments and the little bottles lined up in the middle.

Some of the hexagons have an extra horizontal shelf inside. Keep that detail in mind if you want to display smaller pieces.

wine bottles and a little greenery

This is another wine rack idea, but it’s a little different from the compact one above. The pale boards look gorgeous against the dark wall, with bottles across the upper section and glasses hanging below.

The little plants on the lower ledge are my favorite detail. Try adding greenery rather than filling every opening with bar accessories.

a drop-down desk with shelves

If you want more than a display shelf, take a look at this little desk. The open work surface sits beneath shelves of stationery, with lights tucked under the top board.

I love the bright notes along the back edge. Borrow that splash of color for your own workspace, even if you keep the rest dark brown.

two rows of framed pictures

Give your favorite pictures their own spot with this large framed panel. Two shallow ledges hold a mix of portraits and artwork against vertical boards.

The different frame sizes make this display so lovely. Try a larger picture beside a smaller one instead of choosing matching sizes all the way across.

stacked crate cubbies

Last but definitely not least, we have this dark crate bookshelf. I love how the openings alternate between tall and wide. It gives you a different arrangement on every level.

For a similar display, try upright books in the taller sections and short stacks in the wider ones. Have the units properly joined and anchored before filling them.
