20 Cabinet Colors for Dark Wood Floors and More Color Ideas

Looking for cabinet colors for dark wood floors? Cream, olive green and deep navy give you very different places to start.

These rooms include dark-floor combinations plus a few lighter-floor examples worth saving for their cabinet colors.

You can keep things simple with one shade or mix painted uppers with brown lower cabinets. There’s even a pink kitchen here!

Look at the little details too, from gold-tone handles to a pretty glass-front cupboard.

Cabinet color ideas worth saving

soft white and dark brown

We’re starting off with these pretty white cabinets and dark brown floors. I love the little black knobs against the pale doors.

The island follows the same simple color scheme.

If you want another touch of color, try a patterned red runner like the one beside the stove.

inky navy and brown

I am obsessed with this navy kitchen. The tall glass-front cabinet is gorgeous, especially with the pale dishes lined up inside.

The brown island and dark ceiling beams give you another color to work with. Keep the counters pale if you want to follow this combination without making every surface dark.

olive green and cream

How pretty is this olive green? The lower cabinets sit beside dark brown floorboards, with a cream cupboard above and a deep brown hood surround.

You don’t have to choose one cabinet color for the whole room. Try green below the counter and cream above if you like this mix.

cream with golden brown

If you are looking for something soft and simple, this cream kitchen is for you. The cabinets pair with brown counters and a golden-brown floor rather than a very dark one.

I especially love the little drawer pulls and curtains at the window. A vase of sunflowers is a lovely finishing touch.

gray lowers and white uppers

Don’t want the same color from top to bottom? No problem!

These gray lower cabinets sit beneath white uppers, with gold-tone handles on both.

The floor here is lighter than the dark-floor examples. For your own darker floor, try samples of this gray beside the boards before choosing a shade.

blue cabinets and open shelves

This collage gives you a few different ways to use blue cabinets. I love the darker blue paired with brown counters and shelves full of dishes.

Some examples have white backsplashes while others carry the blue up the wall. Pick the lighter backdrop if that’s the part you’re drawn to.

greige glass-front cabinets

This greige cabinet may just be one of my favorites here. The long gold-tone handles and stacks of white plates are so pretty together.

There isn’t a clear floor view in this close-up, so save it for the cabinet color rather than a complete floor pairing. I’d keep those pale counters too.

black with gold-tone handles

Who says you have to choose pale cabinets with a dark floor? This kitchen goes all out with black doors, black counters and a matching sink.

I love the gold-tone handles and faucet. The white wall above the window gives you a lighter detail to borrow if you’re trying a similar look.

dusty blue and charcoal

The dusty blue cabinets are so pretty beside this dark hood and backsplash. Even the island repeats the blue, with a dark counter on top.

Try brown round-seat stools like these if you want to bring a little of the floor’s color up to the island.

light brown and black pulls

Don’t want painted cabinets? This light brown finish gives you another direction to try.

The visible grain looks lovely above the darker herringbone floor.

Keep the black handles if you’re following this look. They match the faucet, window frames and floating shelves.

muted green and gold

I love this muted green with the gold-tone drawer pulls. The little glass-front cupboards above the solid doors are such a pretty detail.

This room has a lighter brown floor. If you’re borrowing the green for a darker one, you could keep the pale counter and backsplash shown here.

mushroom taupe

If you’re looking for a neutral that isn’t white or gray, try a mushroom taupe like this. The same shade runs across the drawers, wall cabinets and tall pantry doors.

The brown flooring and white backsplash keep the rest simple. Those small gold-tone knobs are all the extra decoration I’d want.

a pale gray vanity

Taking the color search into the bathroom? This pale gray vanity sits beside dark brown plank-pattern flooring, with black knobs and a matching faucet.

The round black-framed mirror ties in nicely. Try the same pale gray direction if you want something softer than a bright white cabinet.

white above dark brown

Here’s another two-color idea, but this one has pale square floor tiles rather than dark wood flooring. The white upper cabinets sit above dark brown lowers and a matching island.

Save this for the cabinet pairing only. If you try it with dark floors, compare the brown cabinet sample with your floor so you can decide how closely you want them to match.

charcoal and white tile

This charcoal kitchen is so pretty. I especially love the gold-tone cup pulls against the dark drawers and the big white sink.

The white tile continues around the window, with brown shelves on the left. Keep those pale surfaces if you want to borrow this dark-cabinet, dark-floor combination.

deep gray and glowing cupboards

If you love darker cabinets, here’s another one worth saving. Deep gray doors sit above glossy brown floorboards, with a large pale hood in the middle.

The lit glass-front cupboards are my favorite part. They give you a lovely place to show off a few dishes without changing the cabinet color.

dusty pink and brown counters

How cute is this pink kitchen? The dusty pink runs around the stove surround as well as across the cabinets. I love it with the gold-tone handles.

The floor here is a golden brown rather than a deep shade. You could borrow the pink for a darker-floor kitchen, but test it next to your own boards first.

green uppers and brown lowers

This is another green cabinet idea, but the color stays up top. Brown lower cabinets and matching brown counters run around the small kitchen.

I love the green beside that simple white-trimmed window. If you want to keep your brown lower cabinets, painting only the uppers is an option to consider.

espresso brown and pale cream

These deep brown lower cabinets look gorgeous beneath the pale cream uppers. The floor is a lighter brown than the cabinet fronts, so the two don’t disappear into each other.

Try long gold-tone pulls if you like this look. The white sink and counters are worth keeping in your inspiration folder too.

deep teal and simple gold

Last but definitely not least, we have these gorgeous deep teal cabinets. I am obsessed with the color!

The small gold-tone knobs and longer pulls keep the details simple.

This example has a light golden floor, not a dark one. For a darker-floor variation, I’d keep the pale backsplash and counter rather than adding another dark surface.
