Looking for space saving dining table ideas that leave room for more than dinner? Fold-down tables, tucked-away chairs and little corner benches give you plenty to work with.
There are even a few ways to fit a dining spot into your living room.
You can keep things simple with a table for two or go all out with built-in seating and shelves. I especially love the ideas that make room for storage too!
Small dining spots worth saving
a table tucked into shelving
We’re starting off strong with this table extending from a tall wall unit. I love the open shelves above it and the little lights in the raised overhead panel.
Keep your tabletop simple with a pair of place settings like these. The shelving gives you another spot for those small decorative pieces.
a fold-down taupe table
Don’t want a dining table sitting out all day? This folding design is worth a look.
The picture shows the taupe tabletop being lowered from its upright cabinet.
The narrow shelf section beside it is such a nice little addition. You could use a similar spot for magazines without covering your dining surface.
a bench with a book nook
How cute is that little book slot at the end of the bench? There are drawers underneath too, with a pale seat and back wrapping around the corner.

I love the green striped cushion next to the plants. Try a patterned cushion if you want to bring a little color into a simple dining nook.
an olive table and orange flowers
I am obsessed with this olive-green table. It’s so pretty with the orange vase and tulips, plus that big pendant above it.
The corner bench sits behind the round top while two brown chairs face it. If you have a spare corner, this is a lovely arrangement to consider.
chairs that tuck right in
These chairs fit so neatly around their tables! The top set has low curved backs that tuck beneath the edge.
The lower set pairs a pale round table with dark chairs that follow its shape.
If you’re shopping for a similar set, check how far the chairs actually tuck in rather than judging the table alone.
lit shelves above the table
This might be one of my favorite storage ideas here. The tall shelves hold plates, cups and little decorative pieces right above the end of the table.
I love the lighting along each shelf. Keep your display just as simple if you want to try this look, with small stacks rather than filling every gap.
a slim table beside built-ins
If you are looking for a dining nook that works with lots of cabinetry, this one is for you. A narrow brown tabletop extends beside the green-backed bench, with white storage fronts underneath the seating.
The white cabinets and small open shelves continue across the next wall. There’s a lot here without a separate dining set in the middle of the floor.
a rounded table at the edge
Sometimes keeping the middle of the room clear is the whole idea. Here, the rounded tabletop sits at the right edge of the kitchen, leaving the central floor area open.
The brown base with pale circular details is a fun little change from a plain table leg. Keep that detail in mind if you like furniture with a playful touch.
a curved gray corner bench
How pretty is this little dining corner? The gray bench follows both walls, with a rounded tabletop and two curved-back chairs in front.
The small vase and candle are all this table needs. I’d keep the trailing plant on the wall shelf so there’s more space below for dinner.
a half-round window table
Don’t want a full dining set and want something super simple? This half-round table beneath the window is such a sweet option.
Two backless stools sit along its curved edge.
I love the vase of flowers off to one side. Leave the middle clear if you plan to use yours for breakfast.
a table that folds from the wall
This is another folding idea, but the plain wall panel gives it a different look. The long tabletop is shown partway down, with a matching panel above it.
If you’re considering something similar, measure the space it needs when fully open. The folded size is only half the story.
drop leaves and little drawers
I love this pale table with the dark chairs. One leaf is raised for dining while the other hangs down beside the wall.
The narrow drawers at the end are my favorite part.
You could use those drawers for napkins and other small dining essentials instead of adding another cabinet.
a clear top and white chairs
If you’re looking for something without built-ins or folding parts, go with a compact table like this one. The clear top, shiny legs and white chairs look lovely beside the window.
This won’t fold away, but being able to see through the top keeps the little corner from looking so full.
a tiny table in a narrow kitchen
Yes, even a narrow kitchen can offer a little dining inspiration. This dark round table sits along the left wall, with two chairs and a small rug underneath.
The shelves above hold cups and glasses rather than taking up more floor space. Just check that your own arrangement leaves room to walk past and open the kitchen cabinets.

a booth beside the bookcase
This built-in booth may just be my favorite nook so far. I love the shelving above the back bench and the tall cabinets right beside it.
The rectangular table sits between facing benches with dark seat pads. Save this one if you’re planning a built-in dining spot rather than adding loose chairs.
a lift-top living room table
No room for a separate dining corner? A lift-top coffee table is another option to consider for occasional sofa meals.
This one is shown with a laptop and mug on the raised surface.
There are open storage sections underneath too. Check the raised height and reach from your sofa before choosing one for eating.
a dining table and coffee cabinet
I am obsessed with this little setup. The brown table extends in front of a cabinet filled with cups, hanging glasses and coffee-making pieces.
The folding chairs are worth noticing too. For a similar arrangement, choose chairs you can put away when you need more floor space.
a half-round table behind the sofa
Who says your dining spot needs its own room? This half-round table sits right behind the blue sofa, with its straight edge following the sofa back.
I love the brown chairs beside that deep blue. Swap the tall centerpiece for a smaller vase when you want more room on the tabletop.
window seating with deep drawers
Look at all that storage under the window seat! The open drawers hold books and divided trays of small supplies, while the dining table sits right alongside the bench.
The pillows are pretty, but I’d leave fewer on the seat during meals. Make sure your table placement still lets you reach the drawers.
a folding table beside the island
Last but definitely not least, we have this large brown tabletop shown being lifted upright beside a kitchen island. The white rectangular support frame is visible below it.
This is one to save if you like the idea of a dining surface that folds away. Check the full movement and support requirements before planning a similar setup in your kitchen.
