20 Plant Shelf Above Bed Ideas and Pretty Bedroom Displays

Looking for a plant shelf above bed idea with a little something extra? Trailing vines, framed prints and rows of little pots give you plenty to work with.

These bedrooms include overhead shelves plus a few headboard and window displays if you’d rather keep your plants elsewhere.

You can keep it simple or go all out with greenery. Just choose plants for your room’s light and make sure overhead shelves and pots are properly secured.

Keep watering away from the bed and foliage clear of lights.

Bedroom Plant Displays Worth Saving

a curtain of green

How gorgeous is all this greenery? The shelf almost disappears behind the leaves, with long vines hanging down on either side of the floral pillows.

If you want to follow this look, leave the middle above your pillows open rather than letting every vine hang straight down.

plants around a framed print

I love this little arrangement around the framed print. Upright plants fill the ends of the shelf while thinner trails reach down toward the bed.

The white bedding and rust-colored cushion keep the rest simple. Choose one larger picture for the center if you want a similar display.

hanging pots by the window

Don’t want a shelf directly over your pillows? No problem! This room takes the greenery over to the window with knotted hanging planters.

I am obsessed with the different lengths. The little bench underneath gives you another spot for plants without filling the bedside table.

one long mixed display

If you like mixing plants with little decorations, this one is for you. The long shelf holds leafy pots, framed pieces and small ornaments above a patterned headboard.

Keep a few gaps between your pots if you’d like the individual shapes to show. That large leafy plant on the right is such a pretty finishing touch.

books and a little greenery

You don’t have to fill every shelf with plants. These two shelves are mostly books, frames and rounded vases, with a small trailing plant at the upper right.

I love this option if you want your book collection to stay part of the bedroom display.

long vines at each end

This may just be one of my favorite arrangements here. The long vines on the left reach almost to the floor!

Smaller pots and a blue picture sit between the larger plants.

Try keeping your tallest trailing plants at the outer ends for a similar look, with plenty of space around any bedside lights.

a bookcase headboard

Want your books close by too? This headboard has open cubbies beneath a top lined with books and plants.

The big fern spilling over the right side is my favorite part.

A headboard with a deep, stable ledge could give you a similar arrangement without adding a separate wall shelf.

leafy loops and art prints

I am obsessed with the looping vines in this display. They hang beneath a white shelf filled with plants and overlapping art prints.

Try a mix of pink and green artwork if you want to bring those colors into your own setup. You don’t need every frame to be the same size.

staggered shelves and rust bedding

How pretty is this little shelf arrangement? There are trailing plants, upright books and a small gold-colored mirror, with a second shelf sitting higher on the right.

The rust and peach bedding looks lovely underneath. Save this one if you prefer a display that isn’t lined up evenly over the bed.

a high shelf over a low bed

Go a little bigger with plants throughout the room. This bedroom has greenery by the window, beside the low bed and on the high shelf along the right wall.

I love the green curtains with the pink bedding. Try that color pairing if you want your plants to feel like part of the whole room.

botanical prints and trailing ends

Calling all botanical-print fans, this is such a pretty way to bring them into your bedroom. The larger picture sits between smaller prints, with trailing greenery at both ends of the shelf.

Don’t forget the green cushions if you want to follow this combination. They look so lovely against the pale bedding.

little pots along the headboard

If you’re looking for a display without long hanging vines, take a little inspo from this headboard. A row of small pots sits along the top, with a tall fern near the right end.

Choose a headboard designed to hold a display like this. I’d keep the mix of gray and terracotta-colored pots.

book stacks and terracotta pots

The book lovers are going to love this! Horizontal stacks run along the shelf with terracotta-colored pots tucked throughout.

The brown pillows and rounded pendant repeat those earthy colors. For your own version, keep pots on stable, water-protected surfaces rather than using favorite books as plant stands.

greenery around the corner

Why stop at one wall? These high white shelves continue around the corner, with leafy plants filling the upper part of the room.

I especially love the vines stretching across the wall on the right. The little framed leaf above the bed fits right in.

a peach arch behind the plants

How cute is this peach backdrop? The painted arch rises behind the shelf and curved headboard, with upright plants and trailing leaves sitting in front.

Try a floral cushion to bring in a few more colors. The one here is such a pretty addition to the cream pillows.

rope details and white shelves

This is a different way to frame a plant display. Thick ropes run beside the white shelves, with a large leafy plant hanging down on the right.

The small patterned vases are adorable too. If you like the rope detail, use a properly rated hanging system rather than treating decorative rope as support.

sage walls and leafy garlands

Don’t want one long shelf? These two small bracketed shelves leave room for botanical pictures, looping leafy garlands and glowing string lights.

I love the sage-green wall behind everything. You could try decorative vines for this look rather than training live plants around the lights.

a white shelf on a dark wall

This dark wall may just be my favorite backdrop on the list. The white shelf and pale pots stand out so clearly, with long vines reaching down beside the headboard.

Keep the bedding mostly white if you want a similar combination. The pale pink pillows add a little color without taking over.

layered shelves and little lights

If you are looking for plenty of display space, then this one is for you. Two long shelves sit above a pair of shorter ones, with plants, pictures and small decorations spread throughout.

I love the long trails at the outer edges. A strand of lights hangs beneath the middle shelf, leaving the lower center open above the pillows.

an arched shelf with one plant

Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous arched shelving behind the bed. One trailing plant sits on the upper left while a few books fill the lower ledges.

You really don’t need lots of pots here. I’d keep the simple peach bedding and let that big arch be the detail you notice first.
