Either way, this is for beginners and last-minute planners alike. No fancy gear required. No huge budget either!
Hundreds of ideas got scrolled through to build this one. Only the doable ones made the cut. The ones that actually look good outside of a perfectly staged photo, not just in theory.
Everything here works whether you’re planning something solo, something small, or something for a whole group. Some ideas take twenty minutes. Others fill a whole Saturday.

FALL ACTIVITIES TO TRY THIS SEASON
Apple Orchard Picking Trip
We’re starting off strong with the classic orchard trip. The smell alone is worth the drive, honestly.
I grab a bag and pick more apples than I need every single time. She swears next year will be different.

Pumpkin Patch Photo Session
Pumpkin patches are basically an outdoor photo studio in October. The light hits differently around golden hour and everyone suddenly looks like a professional model.
Bring a warm scarf and something orange to hold. Are you guys seeing how good these turn out with zero editing?

Scenic Hayride Adventure
A hayride sounds simple until you’re bumping through a field wrapped in a blanket. It’s cozier than it has any right to be!
I always forget these only run on weekends and end up rearranging plans. Skip the early arrival and you stand in a long line, no shame in that. Bring a friend to hold your spot.

Corn Maze Challenge
Corn mazes turn a normal field into an actual challenge. Some are simple and some genuinely humble you, lol!
I still haven’t beaten my own best time from two years ago. There’s always a flag tower somewhere if you truly panic.

Vineyard Fall Tasting Tour
A vineyard visit brings a slower kind of fall afternoon. Vineyards in autumn look nothing like summer, all rust colored leaves and long shadows.
I bring a friend who actually likes talking flavor notes. These don’t get much more relaxed than a tasting flight outside. Otherwise I just nod along, haha!
DIY Pumpkin Carving Station
Set up a proper carving station at home instead of hunching over the sink. Newspaper down, tools out, music on!
I switched to a cheap craft store carving kit years ago. It makes cleaner cuts than any kitchen knife I’ve tried. Roast the seeds after; that part might be the best part!

Fall Wreath Making Project
This one belongs at the top of any fall things to do list, especially if your door has looked bare since summer. Wreaths take an afternoon and cost surprisingly little.
I grab a plain wire frame and layer in dried leaves and small pinecones. My local thrift store always has leftover frames for cheap. A bit of ribbon finishes it off nicely.

Cinnamon Candle Making Kit
Candle making sounds intimidating but it really isn’t. A cinnamon stick kit and some melted wax get you most of the way there.
My whole house smells like a bakery for a solid week after. Not the worst side effect, honestly! The wax cleanup is the only annoying part.

A bonfire with s’mores is one of those fall activities with friends that never gets old. Everyone thinks their marshmallow method is the correct one, lol!

Friendsgiving Potluck Dinner Party
A potluck spreads the cooking around so nobody is stuck making everything alone. The table ends up wildly better than expected.
I always assign categories ahead of time now, for a good reason. We once ended up with five bowls of mashed potatoes. It was still fine, honestly, haha!

Backyard Fall Movie Night
A backyard movie night turns a plain evening into an event. String lights, a projector and blankets on the grass make it feel special.
I do popcorn in mason jars so hands stay clean on the blankets. Either way, it works!

Girls Fall Picnic Setup
A picnic in fall colors is criminally underrated. Sweaters instead of sunscreen, cider instead of lemonade, same great blanket setup!
Pack a charcuterie board with cheese, apples and something chocolate. Who doesn’t love an excuse to sit outside one more weekend before it gets cold, am I right?

Haunted Corn Field Tour
Haunted corn fields belong on every autumn bucket list activities roundup, no debate there. A dark field with actors hiding in it hits different than a regular haunted house.
I always wear shoes I don’t mind ruining, learned that the hard way once. Screaming at a stranger dressed as a scarecrow is a rite of passage, lol!
Sunflower Field Photo Walk
Sunflower fields are usually a summer thing but plenty stick around into early fall. It’s a different kind of beautiful than peak bloom, honestly.
I always get there early before the light turns harsh. Bring a wide brim hat for good measure. Same energy as the pumpkin patch shots, just yellow instead of orange.
Fall Farmers Market Visit
Farmers markets in fall look completely different from summer ones. Squash everywhere, apple cider donuts at every third stand and someone always selling homemade jam!
I bring cash since some vendors don’t take cards. How does she always find the strangest one?
Nature Trail Foliage Hike
Last but definitely not least, a foliage hike closes out this list the way fall deserves. Nothing fancy, just boots and a trail with good color.
I always pack a thermos of something warm and take it slow. The leaves crunch louder than I expect every single time. That alone makes the walk worth it, who wouldn’t want that?
