Wedding season is quickly approaching, you guys!
One of my favorite things about wedding season, besides the open bar, is snooping through every guest book idea on the internet, lol! The whole reception talked about it for weeks!
Every wedding I attend now, I check the signing table first before I even find my seat. Not that I’m judging anyone’s centerpiece choices, haha!
Since wedding planning can feel like a full time job, I’ve gathered 20 alternative guest book ideas the whole crowd will love.
Don’t fret if crafting isn’t your thing! Plenty of these come together with basic supplies and zero glue gun burns.
From cider corks to puzzle pieces and painted rocks, there’s something here for every style of wedding. Under each idea I’ve added the little details you actually want to know, plus a link to the full step-by-step.
ALTERNATIVE GUEST BOOK IDEAS
Wine Cork Guest Book Drop
We’re starting off strong with the cider cork drop idea! Guests write their names on corks and drop them into a big glass vase near the entrance.
I helped her carry that vase home in the back seat like it was cargo. It still sits on her mantel, cork pile and all, lol!
- The centerpiece that becomes a keepsake
- Guests write with paint pens
- Works with real or craft corks
Wooden Heart Drop Box
This wooden heart drop box has such a cozy, rustic feel to it. Tiny wooden hearts get signed and slotted into a box shaped like a bigger heart.
Talk about a sweet keepsake for the mantel! The couple can glue the hearts down later and hang the whole thing. Some couples even add a little date plaque underneath for extra charm.
- Fits in a carry on bag
- Hearts come precut
- Frame it after the big day
Guest Book Puzzle Pieces
Guest book puzzle pieces are perfect for the couple who met over game night. Everyone signs a single puzzle piece. The finished picture gets framed after the wedding.
I lost three pieces under my couch once helping a friend assemble hers, lol! Craft stores sell blank puzzles by the hundred count, so cutting is never an issue. Assembling it later is basically a second date, am I right?
- Doubles as a puzzle night activity
- Blank puzzles from the craft aisle
- Comes in 300 and 500 piece sizes
Fingerprint Tree Canvas Sign
The fingerprint tree canvas sign is a classic for a reason. Guests press a thumbprint onto a painted tree. They sign their name beside a little leaf.
I still think about how patient she was wiping fingers all evening. It hangs in her hallway now, framed and everything!
- The tree fills in as the party goes
- Ink pads in a few fall shades
- Canvas ready in under an hour
Polaroid Photo Guest Book
Polaroid photo guest books turn signing into a tiny photo booth moment. Guests snap a picture, tape it into a book and write a message right beside it.
It practically becomes a second scrapbook by the end of the reception.
- Every page looks completely different
- Instant camera from a thrift find
- Extra film is worth the splurge
Guest Book Jenga Blocks
Guest book Jenga blocks are ridiculously fun and they double as reception entertainment! Each block gets a name and a little note written along the side.
That’s such a sweet built in tradition, right?
- Anniversary game night, built right in
- Jumbo blocks from a craft supplier
- Paint markers work best on wood
Painted Rocks Guest Book
Painted rocks guest book ideas are perfect for a garden or backyard wedding. Guests decorate a stone with a message. The couple later uses them to line a garden bed.
I tried this for my own backyard and ended up with paint on the patio for weeks, lol! The rocks weather beautifully outside for years. It’s such a low key project that even reluctant crafters will get into it, haha!
- Grows into a garden border over time
- Smooth rocks from a landscape supplier
- Paint pens hold up outdoors
Vinyl Record Signing Board
A vinyl record signing board is a dream for music loving couples. Old records get mounted on a board. Guests sign right on the label or the grooves.
Thrift stores are basically a goldmine for cheap records nobody wants anymore. Pick a few that match the couple’s first dance song for a nice little detail.
Map With Pushpins Guestbook
The map with pushpins guestbook is one of my favorites on this whole list! Guests mark where they traveled from with a pin. The map ends up covered in color.
This works especially well for couples with family scattered everywhere. It becomes wall art that actually tells a story. Who doesn’t love that?
- Every pin marks somebody’s hometown
- Large map from a poster print shop
- Pushpins in a few bright colors
Wooden Arrow Signing Display
Wooden arrow signing displays have such a charming, rustic vibe. Small wooden arrows get signed and arranged into a fan or a heart shape on a board.
I hung one of these above my own couch and still catch guests staring at it years later! It’s one of those crafts that photographs way better than expected. How cute is this?
- Arranges into a heart on the wall
- Wooden arrows sold in bulk sets
- Hot glue holds the arrangement fast
Signature Wine Bottle Alternative
Who says a guest book needs to be a book at all? This signature cider bottle alternative lets guests sign a bottle for the first anniversary.
Fair warning, somebody always tries to sign the cork instead, lol!
- Opens on the first anniversary, per tradition
- Wrap the bottle in tissue after
Guest Book Quilt Squares
Guest book quilt squares turn signatures into something the couple can actually sleep under. Each guest signs a fabric square. Someone stitches them all together later.
I used to nap under that quilt as a kid! It’s honestly the coziest keepsake on this entire list.
- Becomes an actual blanket for the couch
- Muslin squares from the fabric store
- Fabric pens set permanently when ironed
Star Wishing Jar Guestbook
Star wishing jar guestbooks are one of the more unique guest book ideas out there. Guests write a wish on a paper star, fold it up and drop it into a big glass jar.
I helped a friend fold two hundred of these stars the night before her wedding, haha! The couple opens a few every anniversary instead of reading them all at once. That’s such a sweet way to stretch out the memories for years.
- One jar, opened a little each year
- Origami paper in a mixed pack
- A funnel makes filling the jar easier
Guest Book Family Tree Print
The guest book family tree print is a beautiful option for a big family wedding. Guests sign a leaf or a branch on a large printed tree.
Are you guys seeing how full this tree gets by the end of the night?
- Fills out fuller with every guest
- Large print from a local shop
Guest Book Advice Cards Box
Advice cards in a box are for the couple who wants real words instead of just a signature. Guests write marriage advice on a card. They tuck it into a decorated box.
The couple reads through them on their first hard day of marriage, which every couple eventually has. No shame in that!
- Read on the first hard day, not before
- Cardstock from the office aisle
- A wooden box holds up for decades
Champagne Cork Message Bottles
Sparkling cider cork message bottles are such a fun twist on a classic idea! Guests write tiny notes and roll them into little bottles shaped like sparkling cider corks.
I found the tiny cork shaped jars in the wedding aisle and bought way too many, lol! They look adorable lined up on a shelf afterward. Same!
- Tiny bottles line up like trophies
- Cork shaped jars from the wedding aisle
- Rolled notes fit with a toothpick
Guest Book Photo Booth Frame
A guest book photo booth frame combines two reception favorites into one. Guests pose with props, print a photo and glue it into a book with a note.
This one keeps a line moving because everyone wants a turn. The album ends up thicker than the actual wedding album, haha!
- The line never stops moving all night
- Instant printer rented for the weekend
- Props from a party supply store
Handprint Guest Book Canvas
Handprint guest book canvases work great for weddings with kids in the wedding party. Small handprints turn into little characters or flowers around a signed canvas.
Grandparents tear up over this one every single time, lol!
- The one that gets the grandparents crying
- Wet wipes kept nearby, always
Guest Book Envelope Time Capsule
The guest book envelope time capsule suits a couple who loves a good surprise. Guests seal a note into an envelope marked five or ten years out.
The wedding gets relived all over again on some random Tuesday. Not in my book would that be a bad surprise!
- Opens on a random Tuesday, years later
- Envelopes labeled by year
- A shoebox works fine for storage
Wooden Puzzle Heart Frame
Last but definitely not least, we have the wooden puzzle heart frame! Guests sign a puzzle piece shaped into a heart. It all fits together into one frame.
This one wraps up the whole list with a literal picture of everyone who came together for the big day. Sweet, simple and worth every minute of assembly. Who wouldn’t want that hanging in their hallway?
- Everyone literally fits together, piece by piece
- Heart shaped puzzle kits online
- Frame sold separately, worth the upgrade
